SHOP TOP SETSWhy Choose a Propane Fire Pit Set? Unlike wood-burning alternatives, propane fire pits offer instant ignition, adjustable flame control, and zero ash cleanup. They're the perfect centerpiece for any outdoor living space, providing warmth and ambiance while serving as a functional table surface for drinks and snacks.
What to Look for in an Outdoor Furniture Set with Propane Fire Pit
An outdoor furniture set with a propane fire pit is more than just a seating arrangement – it's an investment in your outdoor lifestyle. When choosing the perfect set, consider these key factors to ensure you get the best value for your money and a product that will last for years to come.
Materials & Durability
The materials used in your outdoor furniture set determine its longevity and resistance to weather elements. Look for sets constructed from high-quality materials that can withstand sun, rain, and temperature fluctuations. Aluminum frames are lightweight, rust-resistant, and perfect for coastal areas. Steel frames offer superior strength but require powder-coated finishes to prevent corrosion.
For seating surfaces, consider all-weather wicker (resin wicker) which resists fading, cracking, and peeling. Teak and eucalyptus are premium wood options that naturally resist rot and insects, though they require regular oiling to maintain their appearance. Textilene and Sunbrella fabrics are excellent choices for cushions as they resist mold, mildew, and UV damage while remaining comfortable.
Fire Pit Features
The propane fire pit is the centerpiece of your set. Key features to evaluate include the BTU rating (higher BTU means more heat output), flame control options, ignition system (electronic ignition is more convenient than manual), and the type of fire media (lava rocks, fire glass, or ceramic logs). Fire glass offers a modern aesthetic and better heat retention, while lava rocks provide a more natural look.
Safety features are equally important. Look for sets with CSA or UL certification, auto-shutoff valves, and sturdy bases that won't tip over. Consider the height of the fire pit table – standard coffee table height (18-20 inches) works well for seating, while dining height (28-30 inches) is better for eating and entertaining.
Seating Capacity & Configuration
Consider how you plan to use your outdoor space. A standard conversation set typically includes a sectional sofa, loveseat, or multiple chairs arranged around the fire pit. Larger families or frequent entertainers might prefer sets with 5-7 pieces, including ottomans that can double as extra seating. Deep seating options provide superior comfort for extended lounging sessions.

Top Features to Consider
🔥 BTU Output
Look for 30,000–50,000 BTU for optimal warmth. Higher BTU provides better heat coverage for larger areas and cooler climates.
🪑 Seating Material
All-weather wicker, powder-coated aluminum, and teak are top choices. Ensure cushions are UV-resistant and water-repellent.
🔧 Ignition System
Electronic ignition offers convenience and reliability. Match-light systems are more affordable but require manual effort.
💨 Wind Resistance
Look for wind guards or glass shields to protect the flame. Some models include adjustable flame controls to counter wind effects.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size propane tank do I need?
Most propane fire pit tables use standard 20-pound propane tanks, which are widely available at hardware stores and gas stations. A 20-pound tank typically provides 15-20 hours of burn time at medium flame settings.
Can I leave my fire pit outside in winter?
While most fire pit tables are designed for outdoor use, it's best to cover them during extreme weather. Use a weatherproof cover and store the propane tank indoors during winter months to prevent corrosion.
Is a propane fire pit safe for kids and pets?
Yes, when used responsibly. Choose models with safety features like auto-shutoff, CSA certification, and sturdy construction. Always supervise children and pets around the fire pit, and use a safety cover when not in use.
